Catherine A. Wachtel

Catherine Anne Wachtel passed away peacefully at The Renaissance, Olmsted Township, at age 78. 

Cathy was born in Cleveland, OH, beloved daughter of William Grover and Therese Marie (nee Van Loozen) Wachtel. She grew up in Brooklyn, OH and was a graduate of Lourdes Academy. Cathy was a postulant with the Sisters of the Holy Humility of Mary in Pennsylvania. After leaving Villa Maria, while working full time, she earned degrees from Cuyahoga Community College and Baldwin Wallace University. She was a resident of Strongsville, OH for over 40 years. 

Her career focused on computer programming, software applications, and management at Control Data, National City Bank, BFGoodrich, and she retired from TRW Northrop Grumman. She maintained lasting friendships with many of her school and work associates. Cathy enjoyed traveling with family and friends, her bookclub, shopping, and logic puzzles.

Dear sister of Mary Christina Zbiegien (John), William Wachtel, and Joseph Wachtel (Nancy); devoted aunt to Jennifer Zbiegien, Jack Zbiegien (Karin) and Nate Wachtel; great aunt to Matthew, Adam, Elizabeth, and Lauren. Mother to Goldie. Preceded in death by her parents, brother William, and special friend Steven Perkowski.

The family would like to thank the staff of The Renaissance and Northeast Ohio Hospice for the excellent care and companionship they provided Cathy. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. John Neumann Church 16271 Pearl Rd. Strongsville, OH on February 11, 2026 at 10am.

Burial will be immediately following at Strongsville Cemetery, 13123 Pearl Rd Strongsville, OH, alongside her mother and brother.
