Daniel T. Flannery, aged 86, passed away peacefully on June 26, 2026, after a brief illness. Born on February 10, 1940, in Cleveland, Ohio, Dan was the beloved son of the late Thomas and Ellen Flannery. He was preceded in death by his three brothers, Robert, Hugh, and James.
Dan attended St. Colman’s Catholic School and Church where he met his wife Mary (McCafferty) (deceased) in kindergarten. They reunited after high school and remained happily married for 50 years until her passing in 2017. He is survived by their nine children: Mary Brigid (Brian Hudson), Thomas (Ann Marie), Theresa, Daniel, Anne (Steven Bordenkircher), Elizabeth, Catherine, Maureen and Erin (Daniel Mackin); His 10 grandchildren: Raymond, Colleen, Patrick and Neil (Flannery); Robert, Daniel, James and Catherine (Bordenkircher); Thomas and Daniel (Mackin); his nephew, Michael Flannery (Amy); and his dog, Harley.
Dan was a graduate of St. Edward High School. He served in the United States Army before becoming a professional electrician. He was a member of the Cleveland IBEW Local 38 and the Cleveland UAW-GM Division. He became a skilled woodworker after retiring, building furniture for his family, and installing fireplace mantels in several of his children’s homes. He will be remembered as hard-working and dedicated to providing for his family.
Dan was a lifelong Catholic and consistently attended Sunday Mass. Throughout his life, he loved dogs, all forms of weaponry and black licorice. He read nonfiction, specifically relating to warfare and ancient civilizations. He was an avid follower of politics and the nightly news. He became an accidental environmentalist after retiring, relentlessly saving and repurposing building materials he had collected and starting a 30 acre tree farm in Minerva, Ohio.
Memorial Mass will be at St. Bridget of Kildare Parish (5620 Hauserman Road, Parma OH) at 10:00am on Friday, July 10th. Friends may call at Zabor Funeral Home, 5680 Pearl Road, in Parma on Thursday, July 9th from 4 pm to 8 pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Camp Christopher, where his family spent many summers ( https://www.ccdocle.org/serviceareas/camp-christopher/support-us/donate) or to the Immaculate Heart of Mary Divorced, Single and Widowed Catholics Support Group ( https://ihmcfo.org/donate/) which showed him great kindness after his wife’s death.
