Elizabeth Deucher

d. May 8, 2010

Elizabeth "Betty" Deucher ( nee Feigi), 84, passed away Saturday, May 8, 2010 in her home.

A woman of extensive knowledge and lifelong teacher she was respected by many and will be remembered with love by family, colleagues and friends!

Born in Cleveland on October 18, 1925, she was the daughter of Steve and Julia Feigi.  A Hall of Fame Alumni from West Tech High School (Jan '44), Elizabeth was 'one of the first four girls' admitted to Case School of Applied Science.   Although marriage and a family altered her dream of becoming a chemical engineer, she was a dedicated elementary teacher at Holy Family Catholic School and retired from the Parma City School District in 1989.  Traveling to areas she visited in books, Elizabeth collected photos and friends in 7 countries, untold locations in the U.S., including Alaska and Hawaii, and worked with Global Volunteers in China on three different trips.

Betty was preceded in death by her loving husband Donald John, sons Robert Steven (Robyn Beth) and Jamie Morris Deucher; her in-laws, Albert and Florence Deucher, brother-in-law Albert W. Deucher.  She is survived by her beloved daughters: LtCol (Ret) Kathleen (Lee) Brown, Cynthia (John) Carrick, Ann-Marie (Dr. James) Cunningham, Lisa (Gus) Steinke, Sharon (Ret Col Michael) Mattei who gave her grandchildren to love and nurture: Jennifer, Jessica, Tim, Julia, Karl, David, Ian, Daniel, Elizabeth, Andrew, Brian and Elise and great granddaughter, Rian.  Dear sister of Patricia Deucher and aunt of Christine, David and Jeff.  She relished the calls and memory quizzes from her former neighbor and 'Honorary Son,' Bill Zaletal, long after she moved to Virginia where she volunteered at Driver Elementary School.

Mass of Christian Burial, Wednesday, May 19, at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church, 7367 York Road, Parma.  VISITATION AT THE ZABOR FUNERAL HOME, 5680 PEARL RD., PARMA, (BETWEEN SNOW AND RIDGE), TUESDAY, MAY 18 FROM 4-8 P.M.
