Flora "Flo" Fuerst, age 94, born in Cleveland, Ohio passed away peacefully on February 2, 2026. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Lois Fuerst, nephews David (Christina) Fuerst, Gary (Kimberly) Fuerst, niece Sharon Myers (Jeffrey) and nine great nephews, Matthew Fuerst, Zachary Myers, Garrett (Sarah) Fuerst, Christopher Fuerst, Nicholas Fuerst, Kyle Myers, Ryan (Rachael) Myers, Dr. Bryan Fuerst, and Tyler (Emma) Fuerst. She was preceded in death by her parents Norbert and Edna Fuerst, and her brother William Fuerst.
Flora was born July 8, 1931, at St. John’s Hospital in Cleveland. She grew up in Cleveland and graduated from Lourdes Academy High School in 1949. She loved playing sports earning numerous trophies over the years in basketball, fast pitch softball, tennis, bowling, racquet ball, golf, and track and field. She started playing basketball in 1947 and played for many years traveling to tournaments in Missouri and New Mexico. She played fast pitch softball from 1948-1969 as a pitcher. She was inducted into the Lorain Sports Hall of Fame as a documented member of the Lorain Old Dutch Brewerettes.
When Flo was 19 years old she was a member of the Cleveland track and field team that won the National Junior Olympics 440-yard relay hurdles title in New York. She was also an avid Cleveland Browns fan and held season tickets for decades. Flora worked for the General Motors Company at the Cleveland Chevrolet plant in Brook Park, Ohio in 1952 until her retirement in 1982. She purchased her house in Parma Heights in 1963 and remained there until she moved to Altenheim in 2020. While living in Parma Heights she set up an extensive woodworking shop in her garage. She was very creative and loved making anything she could out of wood including Ohio shaped clocks, Christmas ornaments, baskets, bird houses, yard decorations, and cat and dog shaped doorstoppers. She was an animal lover and always fed the squirrels and had numerous homemade bird houses hanging from the trees in her yard. She also loved her dachshunds and owned five of them over her lifetime while living in Parma Heights.
Family and friends will be received on Friday, February 13, 2026, from 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm at The Zabor Funeral Home located at 5680 Pearl Road, Parma, Ohio 44129 (between Ridge & Snow Rds.) A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, February 14, 11:30 AM at Holy Family Catholic Church, located at 7367 York Road, Parma, Ohio 44130. The family will host a luncheon following the Mass at Stancato’s Italian restaurant located at 7380 State Road, Parma, Ohio 44134.
In lieu of flowers, Flora suggested contributions be made to the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Kanab, Utah or the Animal Protective League.
