John “Jack” Bonza

John "Jack" Neill Bonza, Age 89, born April 2nd, 1934. Beloved husband of the late Vivian (nee Mueller). Dear son of the late John N. Sr. and Grace E. (nee Lautermilch). Loving father of Dr. Elise Geither (Jeff) and John Eric (Dr. Sarah). Beloved grandfather of Chloe, Claire, Violet, Eric John (E.J.), and Zaidee. Dear brother of the late Ed (Nancy, deceased), the late Joanne Smeznik (Don, deceased), Frank (Linda), Bob (deceased), the late Grace Lambert (Robert deceased), and the late William. Survived by in-laws, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Ignatius High School or St. John Bosco.

Jack graduated from St. Ignatius High School in 1952. He received a B.S. in Education from Miami University, Oxford, Ohio. He was certified to teach Math, Physical Education, and Latin. He also graduated from John Carroll University with a M.A. in counseling. He taught math at J.F. Rhodes High School for 25 years and coached for 22 years in 6 different sports; Freshman football and basketball, Varsity football, Girls softball, Boys golf and Girls track. In 1976, he entered 4 members of his math class in the Ohio Council of Teachers of Mathematics contest and they topped 226 teams throughout Ohio in winning first place. He was accepted into the Martha Holden Jennings Foundation in the 1978-1979 school year. He enjoyed teaching math to Drew Carey and having him in his homeroom for 3 years. Then he taught Math at Holy Name High School for 18 years and coached for 4 years; 2 each in J.V. Football and Girls Track. He was a parttime Life Insurance salesman from 1968-1988 and a part-time counselor at Cuyahoga Community College Western Campus for 35 years and also taught math there for 5 semesters.
