Lew was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, cousin, and friend. He married Marge, the love of his life, and they were married for 56 years. Lew was a proud U.S. Navy Veteran, serving during the Korean War. He was assigned to the USS Conecuh and the USS Alcor during his four years of service. He also served in the Naval Reserve for two years.
Lew had two very different careers over more than 40 years of employment. He started out working as an accountant for several companies in Cleveland. Following that he worked in the funeral business for Zabor Funeral Home, as their office manager.
In addition to his strong love for his family and friends, Lew also had a lifelong love for music. Starting at the age of 4 he began singing in school choirs and continued performing in many choirs and variety shows during his life. One of his proudest moments was auditioning for the TV show America’s Got Talent in 2017 at the age of 85, performing the song, “Maria” from West Side Story.
He was a dedicated member of St. Francis de Sales Church for nearly 60 years, serving in the Holy Name Society, the Little Brothers of the Poor, the Men’s Choir, and other activities. The church played a large part in Lew and Marge’s life.
Lew was a person who made an impact on all those around him. He made everyone feel like they were family, even if they had just met him. He was considered a great storyteller with “the gift of gab,” which endeared him to so many people throughout his life. During his final years in Assisted Living, his room became the focal point for many stories and conversations with both residents and staff.
His life connected with everyone around him as he always wanted to be the example of what and how our lives can be enhanced by talking to and learning from each other.
One of his favorite quotes, as well as his advice for everyone, was “ALWAYS HAVE A SONG IN YOUR HEART.” Thank you for your “Legacy” – from your loving family.
