Mary Rose Winar

d. June 16, 2020

Mary Rose WINAR (nee Gaino)(98 years), of Parma passed away on June 16, 2020.  Mary was the daughter of Julius and Louisa Gaino, Italian immigrants and sister to John, David, Joseph and James.  She was raised in Cleveland and graduated from West High School in 1940.  During her childhood, Mary enjoyed skating, activities at the North Italian Club and helping her father at his grocery store on Dudley Ave. Mary married her high school sweetheart, Roy Winar in 1942 in Illinois.  Only her mother and mother-in-law attended the ceremony.  They took along a dress and asked a young store clerk, who wore that dress size, to be the maid of honor in the wedding as you often did not follow conventional rules during war times.  Pearl, the girl who wore the dress, and Mary became lifelong friends.  While Roy was serving in the Air Force, Mary worked at National Carbon to support the war effort.  Following the war Roy and Mary had two children in Cleveland and two children in Parma, where they resided for the rest of their lives.  Mary was actively involved in their children's lives as an officer in PTA, cub scout leader, and Sunday School Teacher.  As her children grew older, she worked at Binder's Bakery, became a practical nurse at Parma Hospital in the Obstetric's ward, played cards with neighbors, started piano lessons and sewed many quilts.  Mary and Roy traveled to Italy to visit relatives, Hawaii and the Holy Lands.  Mary was a member of Good Shepherd United Methodist Church and Parma Heights Baptist where she taught Sunday School and was active with White Cross and Adult Bible Studies.  Mary's greatest joy was her family.  She followed the adventures of her children (4), grandchildren (14), great grandchildren (24), great great grandchildren (1), nieces (Carol, Margaret and Virginia) and nephews (David and James) with great interest and always practiced and shared her faith. Mary is survived by her children; William David (Karen) of Medina with their children Marcia Gillum, Sandra Brooker (Mal), David (Candi) and Daniel (Holly), Nancy Louise Lamkin (Barry) of Richfield with their children Jeremy, Marisa Hoffmann (Mark), and Nathaniel, Thomas Roy (Jeanette) of Westlake with Matthew and Travis, James Joseph (Jan) of Brecksville with their children Julie Blackstone (Chris), Jill Walthers (Jon), Jordon (Mandy), Jared (Lauren) and Jubilee. The family extends their sincere thanks to those that kept in contact with Mary during her final years.
