Listen to Obituary

Richard William Prosser, 85, of Parma, Ohio, passed away peacefully on August 8, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was preceded in death by his sister, Jean, and his parents, Sylvia and William Prosser.

Born in Cleveland, Ohio, on January 5, 1941, Richard was, above all else, a family man. He spent 63 years married to the love of his life, Nancy Ann (Hockenberry) Prosser. Their marriage was defined by unwavering love, devotion, and a lifetime spent caring for one another. At 6’ 4”, Richard towered over his 4' 10” wife, but anyone who knew the two of them knew exactly who was in charge.

Together, Richard and Nancy built a life centered around their family. They were blessed with two daughters, Michele Lynn Taylor and her husband, Gary, and Christine Lee Prosser Seaman and her husband, Thomas. They were also proud grandparents to Holly Mae Freed, Mallory Lorence Taylor, and Thomas Christian Seaman. Richard was immensely proud of the family they created and was the kind of husband, father, and grandfather who showed his love by showing up. Whatever his family needed, whenever they needed it, he was there.

Richard proudly served in the National Guard in 1963 before going on to become a familiar face to generations of customers in Parma as the longtime owner of Parma Vacuum, which he owned and operated for more than 40 years. He took great pride in his work, his business, and the relationships he built throughout the community.

Outside of work and family, Richard loved Harley-Davidson motorcycles, boating on Lake Erie, and spending time with his friends at the American Legion Post 703.

But of all the things Richard built, owned, fixed or loved throughout his 85 years, nothing mattered to him more than his family. His devotion to Nancy and the life they shared for more than six decades was at the center of everything.

Richard is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Nancy; daughters Michele Lynn Taylor and Christine Lee Prosser Seaman; granddaughters Holly Mae Freed and Mallory Lorence Taylor; grandson Thomas Christian Seaman.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. at All Saints Episcopal Church, 8911 Ridgewood Drive, Parma, OH 44130. A Celebration of Life will follow in the parish hall.
