Sally A. Manville

d. August 30, 2023

Sally A. MANVILLE, age "88 is great," (nee Fleischmann) formerly of Parma Heights, peacefully exited this life and stepped into the eternal quiet on August 30, 2023. She joined "her Paul," Paul E. Manville, who has been fishing in Heaven since 1997. Her daughter and only child, Sarah Manville West of Cleveland Heights, enjoyed the last private, precious and preparatory days of Sally's life supported by the nurses from Lerner Tower 7th Floor at University Hospital Main Campus and The Hospice of the Western Reserve.

Supporting Sally's journey were her three granddaughters, Elenore, Helen and Emma Gann; her son-in-law, Tom West; her brother, John Siroky of Mountain Center, CA; her sister and niece, Cherri Haeberle and Shannon Lozano; her sister-in-law, Elaine Traxler of Naples, FL; her nieces Sue Maycock and Robin Herrmann and Susan's husband Bob Maycock of Hemet, CA; and family friends Michael Nalepka, Cathryn Stanbridge and Victoria Stanbridge, who captured this untroubled moment between mother and daughter.

Sally was born at home at 3303 Tuxedo Avenue to Lawrence Fleischmann and Camille Sykora on May 14, 1935. Her childhood was spent in Old Brooklyn and Parma and her family eventually settled on West Pleasant Valley Road in a home her father, a bricklayer, designed and built. She enjoyed a 35-year career as an educator in the Parma City School District, from which she herself was a 1954 graduate.

She was an avid volunteer post-retirement, using her wit, insight and can-do spirit to support the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo, Redeemer Crisis Center, and the Holy Name High School marching band. Sally was a dedicated 54-year member Ellbrook Chapter #408 OES and cherished her Strongsville/Parma area Red Hat Society. Sally was thrifty yet generous, sharp-witted yet tender hearted, and endlessly opinionated while remaining open to others. Her friendships lasted her lifespan; her longest friendship with Sadie Ross of Inverness, Scotland, began in 1944, when Sally and her sister Ruth answered a Red Cross ad to be pen pals with children in war-torn Europe. Sally and her friendship group of usual suspects met every week for coffee to share, connect, help and heal. Sally's daughter Sarah and her "Grand Girls," Ellie, Helen and Emma, are profoundly grateful for the gift of the endless and observable love Sally gave to each of them. Her constancy was an audacity of riches and her girls are forever grateful for her life. Sally attended every school event and spent many a weekend hosting sleepovers at "Granny' s House." Sally perfected the art of ice cream for breakfast, breakfast for dinner and always eat dessert first. Her witty repartee will be missed at family events to come, but "Sally Stories" will be forever shared in its place. Sally valued her independence, but she also deeply loved her family and community.

Come share your own "Sally Stories" at The Zabor Funeral Home, 5680 Pearl Rd. Parma (betw. Ridge & Snow), Sunday, September 3, from 1:00-4:00 PM, with OES services at 4:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, Sally would suggest a donation to Redeemer Crisis Center.
