Dear Pat,

In the Lakota language there is the expresssion, “Mitakuyepi wopila heca,” which in English means, ‘We are grateful for our relatives.’ It punctuates the sacred relationship we have with our relatives that is associated with the Wakan Tanka (God). It is also a way of remembering those relatives that have passed on and is a statement of honor for our spiritual connectedness to them, which is ongoing.
